FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of synthesis of chloro-derivatives of toluene, namely, benzyl chloride, benzoyl chloride, benzal chloride which are the parent raw for synthesis of amines, acids and alcohols. Method involves the use of vat residues of benzyl alcohol production as ester source that have 90-99% of dibenzyl ester and chlorine as acid agent. Treatment is carried out at 80-140 C in mole ratio vat residue : chlorine = 1 : (1.7-2.5) to yield mixture of products followed by their separation.
