FIELD: catalysts for treating gases. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalysts for removing oxygen when processing hydrogen sulfide-containing gases into sulfur in Claus process. Method is distinguished with that aluminium hydroxide alone, or with blowing agents, or with up to 30% of χ-alumina is mixed with iron salt, whereupon nitric acid is added to acid modulus Ma = 0.1-0.01 and resultant mass is extruded, dried, and calcined at 450- 600 C. As iron salt, sulfate, oxalate, nitrate, and acetate salts are used and, as blowing agent, coniferous sawdust (up to 20%), carboxymethylcellulose or carboxyethylcellulose. EFFECT: reduced power consumption and simplified catalyst preparation procedure. 5 cl, 1 tbl
