FIELD: image formation. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to laser technology for forming three-dimensional or flat images inside transparent polymer material used for marking articles, when manufacturing decorative articles and souvenirs. In particular, image inside transparent carbonizing polymer with absorption index below 20 cm-1 is formed from dark point regions formed when focusing emission beam in specified points. Parameters of the emission beam are controlled in such a way as to provide density of beam energy to exceed density of energy required for carbonization of material and intensity of beam to be less than material ionization energy. Article containing thus formed image has no breaks in material continuity. When varying intensity of coloration, dimensions and spatial location of image-formation point regions, three- dimensional or flat images are obtained with great number of shades. EFFECT: enlarged possibilities of image formation. 2 cl
