FIELD: mechanical engineering; vehicle suspensions. SUBSTANCE: vibration damping method includes creating of resistance forces by filling above-and under-piston space of n-number of steps of pneumatic shock absorber with working agent. Shock absorber spaces are formed by main and additional hollow rods and pistons placed in shock absorber. Pressure of working agent in steps of pneumatic shock absorber can differ in two or even more times. Pistons of pneumatic shock absorber have throttling and switching valve systems and they are spring loaded. In process of operation at compression stroke steps of shock absorber are cut in action in turn bringing new volumes into service and increasing amount of working agent, thus providing smooth movement of piston. During rebound stroke all switching valve systems of all steps operate simultaneously, providing jump-like quantity redistribution of working agent to equalize pressure in spaces of pneumatic shock absorber making them equal in each pair of steps of shock absorber. EFFECT: improved quality of vibration damping. 3 cl, 1 dwg
