FIELD: converter substations for power transmission lines and DC links, electrified railways, electric metallurgy and chemistry. SUBSTANCE: each arm of two diode bridges of converter has two parallel circuits, each incorporating thyristor branch with series-connected turn-off thyristors and diode branch with series-connected diodes; one circuit starts from thyristor branch according to direction of conduction and other one, from diode branch; capacitor is inserted between adjacent units of both circuits. EFFECT: improved reliability of converter due to gradual current switching in bridges, without surges. 3 dwg
