FIELD: irrigated agriculture. SUBSTANCE: method involves cutting stepped slits with reservoirs by means of soil slitters; providing stepped slits during continuous movement of equipment next and following years upon third mowing of grass mixtures; forming wide slit with inclined walls in arable layer, with displaced soil being positioned adjacent to wide slit sides; providing narrow slit with reservoirs in subsurface layer; increasing slit depth from 0.35-0.6 m; reducing sections of wide slits by 15-25%; reducing slit spacing from 1.8-2.0 to 0.5-0.7 m. Apparatus has shank, widener and chisel. Shank is made in the form of triangle with unequal sides. Widener positioned in central opening of shank is made in the form of two hollow rings. Rings are conjugated at intersection of triangle medians with long side of triangle and are spaced apart at short side. Shank of soil slitter is moved from one position to other position by turning it about vertical axis aligned with one median of triangle through 180 deg or about one of horizontal axes of fastening bolts through 120 or 240 deg.
