FIELD: agriculture. SUBSTANCE: method involves cutting double-stepped slits having different sizes in agricultural land, with upper body step being made in arable layer at 25-27 cm depth and lower narrow step being formed in subsurface layer below plow sole at 20-25 cm depth. When upper slit is formed, mellowed soil is shifted from narrow slit of lower step for larger distance than from throat portion of upper step slit. Throat portion of upper step slit is 5-10% wider than lower step width. Width ratio of lower portion of upper body step and throat portion of the same slit is (15-20) : 1. Working tool has slitter mounted in vertical position and having side surfaces provided with ribs adapted for sealing slit walls. Slitter has two interconnected plates. Plate front parts are provided with blades. Retractable chisel is disposed at lower part of tine. Ribs arranged in opposed relation on upper rear part of tine are formed by local deformation of respective parts of plates defining surfaces of hyperbolic cylinders whose convexities are oriented to plate joints. Rib lower edges are positioned at larger angles to joint planes than rib upper edges. EFFECT: reduced draft of slitter, increased strength of cut slits and effective action of irrigation water and air upon soil. 4 cl, 8 dwg
