METHOD FOR PRODUCTION OF BUTYL RUBBER Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

FIELD: production of synthetic rubber, namely, butyl rubber being used for production of tire, rubber industrial articles, medicinal industry, petrochemical industry. SUBSTANCE: method is carried out by copolymerization of isobutylene and isoprene which takes place in the medium of methyl chloride being used as diluent and in the presence of Friedel-Crafts catalyst. Gases of blowing of system of condensation of compressed hydrocarbons are fed for their absorption by water, absorbed methyl chloride as its aqueous solution is fed to the first step of degassing of rubber and inert gases are exhausted in atmosphere. Purification of drying agents against hydrocarbons being adsorbed during drying of hydrocarbons is carried out before regeneration of drying agents, the process takes place with the help of inert gases having temperature 50-100 C; the process is followed by channelling of drying agents to the first step of compressing together with steams of hydrocarbons being distilled by degassing. Duration of said purification is preferably 2-4 h. Oxygen-free water or water being separated from rubber dispersion of the end step of degassing before its feeding for concentration and separation of rubber is used as water for absorption of methyl chloride of blowing gases; temperature of said water is maintained within 7- 20 C.
