FIELD: prospecting geochemistry for prognostication of presence of oil and gas in investigated regions. SUBSTANCE: the offered method includes taking samples of rocks in each lithological type of rocks occurring in section; determination in samples of factor of sorption activity; calculation of mean value of sorption activity factor for each lithological type of rocks; determination of value of content of high-molecular compound in samples for which factor of sorption activity is lower than mean value of sorption activity factor, and increase of value of high-molecular compounds in depth in the interval down to 600 m on land and down to 100 m on shelf is indicative of presence of hydrocarbon pool occurring in deep horizons.
