METHOD DETERMINING LENGTH OF PATH COVERED BY MOBILE OBJECT Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

Abstract RU 2093854 C1

FIELD: contactless measurement of path covered by mobile object, container areas for determination of coordinates of installation point of containers in Cartesian coordinate system with the use of overhead travelling crane. SUBSTANCE: method determining length of path covered by mobile object is implemented with the aid of active and passive transceiving antennas, one of them being put on mobile object, the other - fixed on ground with apertures facing each other and electrical axes on one straight line in parallel to direction of motion of object. Method consists in simultaneous irradiation of passive antenna by active antenna and objects located nearby with electromagnetic waves in periodic change of impedance of passive antenna, in reception by active antenna of signals reflected from passive antenna and local objects, in isolation of modulation signal changing impedance of passive antenna from sum of these signals and in measurement of number of minima or maxima of this signal when object moves from one point of space to another. Path covered by object is found by formula l=(2n-1)λ/8, where n is number of minima or maxima isolated from signal reflected from passive antenna; λ is working length of wave radiated by active antenna.
