FIELD: instruments. SUBSTANCE: output of electromagnetic wave oscillator is connected to input of first coupler which outputs are connected to inputs of directional elements which main channel outputs are connected to inputs of antennas. Output of side channel of one directional element is connected to input of second coupler through phase shift. Output of side channel of another directional element is connected to input of third coupler. First outputs of couplers are connected to reference and signal inputs of phase detector. Second outputs of couplers are connected to inputs of amplitude detectors. Outputs of amplitude detectors are connected to inputs of first and second threshold gates, which outputs are connected to inputs of AND gate. Output of phase detector is connected to input of signal input of gate element. Output of AND gate is connected to control input of gate element, which output is connected to input of indicator. Electric axis of one antenna is directed towards side working surface of flange of reference or tested wheel at acute angle to wheel's shaft. Electric axis of another antenna is directed at right angle to external surface of wheel's rim. EFFECT: automatic contactless measurement of thickness of flange of railroad wheel under running conditions, increased precision, increased stability to noise due to phase measuring of flange thickness. 4 dwg
