FIELD: metallurgy, namely insertion of pinch bar to tap of shaft furnace. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of axially feeding pinch bar by means of drive unit in such a way that pinch bar is subjected to oscillation or rotary motion around its lengthwise axis at transmitting axial feed effort to it. Apparatus for performing the method includes units for creating axial effort and for transmitting effort to pinch bar respectively and also unit for creating oscillation motion. Unit for transmitting axial effort to pinch bar are in the form of clamping body mounted with possibility of axial motion and rotation around pinch bar axis for providing transmission of oscillation to pinch bar.
