FIELD: production of magnesium by electrolysis of molten salts. SUBSTANCE: proposed diaphragm-free electrolyzer has housing, lining, partition with upper and lower flow windows separating electrolytic compartment and collecting cell. Electrolytic compartment has anodes and cathodes. Cathodes are installed at level or protrude beyond anodes on side of partition. Partition has protrusion of rectangular shape bevelled towards electrolytic compartment. It forms Z-shaped profile with protrusion parallel to cathode. Clearance has constant width along entire length. Width of protrusion equals 0.2-0.6 width of clearance. Upper flow window of separating partition has 30-75 deg chamfer towards electrolytic compartment. EFFECT: optimal distribution of flows of electrolyte with magnesium providing for decreased losses of it, increased output. 4 cl, 1 dwg
