DIAPHRAGMLESS ELECTROLYZER FOR PRODUCING MAGNESIUM AND CHLORINE Russian patent published in 1997 - IPC

Abstract RU 2092617 C1

FIELD: electrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: electrolyzer has chocks installed in the ends of integrated cell in front of windows in barrier. Between inactive surfaces of anodes and lining, channels for withdrawing magnesium and windows in front of channels are available. Anodes 5 are placed at 1-4 interelectrode distances from longitudinal wall. Cathodic screens 6 are adjacent to lining but can be placed at 1-2.5 interelectrode distances from lining. Distance from bottom to screen 6 is 0.4-1.5 that from bottom to lower edge of cathode 4. Between inactive surfaces of end anodes 5 and lining, there are channels for magnesium removal 15 with their bottom descended to 0.2- 0.5 height of cathode 4 and their width constituting 0.5-1.0 distance between ends of anodes and lining of longitudinal wall. Integrated cell 7 is located between electrolytic compartments 3, and is separated from them by barriers 9 and closed by covers 13. Barrier 8 in front of electrodes is continuous, whereas, that in front of magnesium removal channels 15 has windows 9. Removal of magnesium is also performed through secondary windows 10. The latter in opposite barriers 8 are shifted in relation to one another and/or arranged at an angle to longitudinal axis of electrolyzer. Ends of integrated cell bear bulges 11 with chocks on them. Chocks are inserted into integrated cell to 1-2 width of magnesium removal channel. Covers 13 of cell are equal in height or higher than vertical section of connecting pipes 14 for sanitary and technical suction and are installed with their side walls abutting these pipes. Covers may by U- or box-shaped. EFFECT: reduced effort to withdraw sludge from electrolytic compartments, increased power of electrolyzer, and reduced chlorine release. 16 cl, 2 dwg
