FIELD: aluminum production. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to producing aluminum via electrolysis of cryolite-silica melt in electrolyzers with self-burning anode and upper current contact. Displacement of vertical rods in anode is performed after 40-56 h of operation: 5-7 rods at maximum distance from each other are displaced at one time, distance between lower and upper horizons being maintained as doubled product of anode consumption value over the period between two displacements of rods and the number of horizons diminished by one. EFFECT: improved current distribution in anode.
