FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: electric arc furnace has metal-intake bunker whose bottom part is radially expanded outside relative to top part and at least one graphite electrode placed in its side bottom part projecting to metal-intake bunker and arranged for displacement in longitudinal direction and for striking arc between itself and loaded material; radial expansion of bottom part of hopper is provided in the vicinity of graphite electrode; steel is produced from scrap and/or blast-furnace cast iron, and/or sponge iron in mentioned furnace made in the form of shaft furnace and involves continuous smelting of loaded material in electric arc shaft furnace and accumulation of melt formed, its recovery into steel, heating, and its tapping in electric hearth furnace connected to the former; steel is produced from scrap in mentioned furnace having hollow graphite electrodes connected to gas and solids supply piping; procedure involves feeding of fossil materials through hollow graphite electrodes upon loading furnace with scrap and striking electric arc. EFFECT: improved design, enlarged functional capabilities. 34 cl, 11 dwg
