FIELD: plastic metal working, in particular, production of composite materials; may be used in manufacture of bimetallic wire with steel core, mainly, steel-copper wire. SUBSTANCE: method includes feed of steel core and copper band, assembly of bimetallic blank, heating and rolling. Surface of steel core is preliminarily activated with electric arc discharges of DC of positive polarity in medium of neutral electrolyte at specific power of 0.4-0.5 kW/sq. cm. Rolling is effected in multiroll pass of circle-square manner at temperature of 700-800 C and reduction degree of 20-25%. EFFECT: higher strength of metal joint in wire due to formation in surface a layer of steel core of nonequilibrium grain structure with high potential energy and large supporting area. 3 dwg
