FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: tetrahydroimidazo-[1,4]-benzodiazepines of the general formula (I) given in description and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts or stereoisomers where R1 - C1-6-alkyl or radical -Alk- where R7-R9- means independently hydrogen or C1-4-alkyl; R2 - hydrogen or C1-6-alkyl; R3 - hydrogen or C1-6-alkyl; R4-R5- - hydrogen or halogen; R6 - C1-6-alkyl; X - OH or -SH. Antiviral composition has a compound (I) as an active component at amount 1-1000 mg. Intermediate compounds (II) and (III) given in description where R2-R6, X have values as indicated above; R1H - hydrogen or values as for R1 used for synthesis of compounds (I). Method of synthesis of compounds (I) involves interaction of compound of the general formula (III) with reagent L-C-(=X1)-L (IV) where X1 - O or S in inert solvent. Compounds (I) show antiretroviral activity. EFFECT: improved method of synthesis. 5 cl, 2 tbl
