FIELD: aeronautical meteorology. SUBSTANCE: cloud in direction of planned route is probed with the aid of airborne radar before aircraft enters cloud and average value of radar signal reflected from it is found. At same time flying speed of aircraft and temperature of atmospheric medium outside aircraft are measured. Then averaged value of water content of cloud corresponding to averaged value of radar signal reflected from cloud as well as coefficients of entrapment and ice covering taking into account effect of flying speed of aircraft and temperature of atmospheric medium outside aircraft on growth of ice on skin of aircraft are determined. Finally thickness of ice layer that can be formed on skin of aircraft while flying through cloud is calculated with use of available data. Comparing obtained data with maximum permissible ones one can evaluate danger of ice formation on aircraft in overcooled clouds. EFFECT: enhanced flying safety. 1 dwg
