FIELD: radiolocation meteorology. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to determine stage of evolution of clouds during its natural evolution for practical purposes of timely planning of operations for man-induced precipitation. In process of radar sounding of cloud area limited over perimeter by threshold level of radar reflection and by threshold level of condensation from beneath is isolated in correspondence with method. Then zones of enhanced water content and turbulence are isolated in this area by radar sounding and stage of evolution of cloud is evaluated by their location in isolated volume. If zones are located in upper third of isolated area cloud is considered developing and if these zones are located in middle or lower third of area cloud is considered to be at stage of quasi-stationary or dissipation condition.
