FIELD: core-destructive accident control systems of nuclear reactors. SUBSTANCE: trap has coolant chamber placed below reactor vessel and accommodating melt receiver made in the form of vertical modules polygon-shaped in cross section. Modules are arranged in a spaced relation to each other over adjacent edges. Top ends of edges of adjacent modules are interconnected at minimum half the edge width. So, almost all melt is entrapped and held inside modules wherein it is intensively cooled down with water contained in clearances between modules.
