FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: isolation of pentafluoroethane from a mixture of pentafluoroethane and chloropentafluoroethane is carried out by addition of fluorocarbon extractant with 1-4 carbon atoms and containing preferably hydrogen and/or chlorine at the zone of extractive distillation followed by isolation of pentafluoroethane free of chloropentafluoroethane as the upper distilled off product. Extractant has boiling point above -39 C and below 50 C. Pentafluoroethane is used as a coolant agent, foaming agent, reactive fuel. It does not destroy ozone layer in atmosphere.
