FIELD: fresh water production. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of fresh water production in remote, arid, and waterless regions and aims at increasing productivity in producing fresh water out of atmosphere air. Aim is achieved in that, absorption of moisture from air occurs when air is blown through sorbent which then yields moisture upon heating. Method is distinguished by using, as sorbent, material consisting of porous matrix containing hygroscopic substance in its pores. Such matrix may be inorganic oxides, carbon sorbents, polymers, natural sorbents, porous metals, porous composites, or their mixtures. Pores of these matrices are filled with hygroscopic inorganic salts, their solutions, or crystal hydrates. In desorption stage, sorbent is heated to 50-80 C using solar energy, electric power, or heat from various engines, while temperature in water condenser is maintained close to ambient temperature.
