FIELD: production of metal powders used, in particular, in preparation of catalysts and different alloys. SUBSTANCE: method includes reduction in water medium of basic nickel carbonate with aqueous solution of hydrazine hydrate with concentration of hydrazine of at least 4 mole/l with hydrazine-nickel molar ratio of at least 1.3 at temperature of 80-90 C. Nickel powder yield amounts to more than 90%. Produced nickel presents a black solid ultrafine powder with particles sizing 54 ± 14. mm and specific surface of about 20.8 sq.m/g.
