FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: bis-fluoromethyl ether is prepared by reaction of formaldehyde and hydrogen fluoride in reactor- rectification vessel. The reactor-rectification vessel is preferably reactor rectification column in which formaldehyde and hydrogen fluoride move in counter flow towards each other. Bis-fluoromethyl ether is converted into difluoromethane by heating bis-fluoromethyl ether at elevated temperature in the presence of metal, metal oxide, metal fluoride or metal oxyfluoride base catalyst.
