FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: bis(fluoromethyl) ether is prepared by interaction of gaseous hydrogen fluoride with formaldehyde. The process takes place in the presence of catalyst or liquid anhydrous hydrogen fluoride while at least portion of water being obtained as side product is removed. Difluoromethane is prepared by feeding of bis(fluoromethyl) ether into reaction zone which comprises catalyst, the process is carried out by heating. By production of difluoromethane low cost and low toxic origin materials are used. EFFECT: improved efficiency of the method. 14 cl, 22 tbl
