FIELD: organic chemistry; production of organoboron compounds, particularly, esters of dialkyl boric acids, namely, production of diethylmethoxy borane. SUBSTANCE: method involves interaction of triethyl borane and methyl alcohol in the presence of pivalic acid which takes place at 2-10 C. Molar ratio of triethyl borane, methanol and pivalic acid is 1:(1.005-1.01): 0.005-0.01, respectively. Reaction mass is allowed to stand at 18-22 C, and product is isolated by rectification. Yield of product is 93-94 %, its degree of purity is 99.9 %. Diethylmethoxy borane may be used together with sodium boron hydride by diastereoselective reduction of β-hydroketones into 1,3-dioles. EFFECT: improved efficiency.
