FLAW DETECTOR-TOOL FOR INTRAPIPE EXAMINATION OF PIPE-LINES Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: detection of flaws in wall of pipe-lines of type of corrosion cavities, cracks, mechanical injury. SUBSTANCE: flaw detector-tool is additionally fitted with by-pass branch pipe for cross-over of product transported over examined pipe-line and system of automatic adjustment of movement velocity incorporating transducer 9 of movement velocity, control unit 10 with element setting movement velocity and adjusting element in the form of brake 11-multisectional ring electromagnet with brush poles 12 and 13 and windings 14 and 15 spaced along axis of pipe-line and facing internal surface of pipe-line interacting with wall of pipe-line. Flaw detection unit of flaw detector-tool is manufactured in the form of two modules spaced along axis of pipe-line. In one module ( ring ) magnetization unit is combined with one of sections of ring electromagnet f brake 11 which winding is connected to power supply unit separately from other sections of electromagnet connected to output of control unit 10. Other ( rotor ) module has magnetization units fabricated in the form of magnets ( electromagnets ) with poles spaced away perpendicular to axis of pipe-line and arranged uniformly over lateral perimeter of rotor 17 mounted on base for rotation about axis and provided with rotation drive. Links of magneto sensitive converters are located in ring module between ring poles of magnetization unit all over lateral perimeter of pipe-line and in rotor module - between poles of magnets ( electromagnets ) along lines parallel to generating line of pipe-line.
