FIELD: aluminum production. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to production of aluminum via electrolysis of cryolite-silica melt. Height of layers of cathode aluminum and melt, molecular relationship $$$, concentration of calcium fluoride in electrolyte, and average voltage on electrolyzer are maintained within the ranges determined from the following empirical formulas: $$$, where $$$ is height of cathode layer of aluminum, cm; $$$ height of melt layer, cm; k evaluation value of molecular relationship $$$ for electrolyte, $$$ concentration of calcium fluoride in melt%; $$$ average voltage on electrolyzer, V; $$$ depth of electrolyzer well, cm; $$$ average distance from side surface of anode to cathode borders, cm; $$$ empirical coefficients of proportionality ($$$= 0.79-0.83; $$$=4.2- 5.07; $$$=0.69-0.82; $$$= 0.41-0.53; $$$=0.64-0.69). Electrolyzer group-averaged values of difference between real and evaluation values are adopted as follows: $$$ 0.5 cm, $$$ 0.5 cm, $$$ 0,05, $$$ 0.5%, and $$$ 0.05 V. EFFECT: optimized process parameters.
