FIELD: corrosion protection. SUBSTANCE: method of protecting metals, e. g. zirconium, against oxidation may find use in all mechanical engineering branches, including protection of fuel element cans in nuclear reactors. Metal part is cooled by liquid nitrogen and surface of part is consecutively site-by-site melted by laser beam. Into melting zone, mixture of liquid nitrogen and argon is fed to form metal nitride film on the part surface, regularity and thickness of coating being controlled. EFFECT: improved procedure. 4 cl, 2 dwg
