FIELD: technological processes and methods for provision of protection of metal or wood surfaces, in particular, methods and technological processes in which protective materials are formed or absorbed on the above-indicated surfaces to protect from abrasive attrition, corrosion, heat and fire. SUBSTANCE: the offered method of treatment of article surface includes formation of many layers of metal-silicate salt on the surface, holding of the last layer of silicate salt in acid solution to form outer layer of silicon dioxide over the layers of silicate salt to form in this manner protective barrier on article. Method of formation of protective barrier on article surface with use of solution of sodium silicate includes the following stages: holding of the surface in solution of sodium silicate; adequate drying of the surface until sodium silicate dries out to form a layer of sodium silicate on the surface; repetition of stages a and b to form many layers of sodium silicate over said fixed surface; holding of the last layer of sodium silicate in phosphoric acid to form outer layer of silicon dioxide on said fixed surface; complete drying of outer layer of silicon dioxide. Method of treatment of article with use of silicate-containing solution includes application of film layer of silicate-containing solution to surface of said article, drying of said film layer of silicate-containing solution by means of holding of film layer at temperature of not less than 150 C for the period of time sufficient for producing dry solid layer of silicate material on said surface, holding of said silicate material in acid to form protective layer on the surface. The article is characterized by the fact that protective barrier layer is formed by application of film layer of silicate-containing solution to article surface, drying of said film layer of silicate-containing solution by holding of said film layer at temperature of, at least, 150 C for the period of time sufficient for producing dry solid layer of silicate material on the surface, holding of solid layer of silicate material in acid to form protective barrier layer on article surface. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 18 cl, 5 dwg
