FIELD: desulfurization processes. SUBSTANCE: sulfur-containing water is treated by sulfur- and/or sulfate-reducing bacteria in anaerobic conditions and in presence of electron donor which is compound producing acetate in anaerobic medium. Such compound may be methanol, ethanol, or glucose. Treatment for at least a part of time is conducted at 45 to 100 C. Treated may be water coming from washing of sulfur-containing effluent gas.
