FIELD: control system of electric drives. SUBSTANCE: method is based on determining character of swinging mechanism operation mode according to static component of armature current calculated from value of armature present current and derivative from armature voltage. Device for realization of aforesaid method is provided with in series connected summing amplifier, threshold element, and key connected to current regulator circuit. Connected to inputs of summing amplifier directly is armature current sensor, and connected through differentiating unit is sensor of swinging motor armature voltage. Depending on mode of operation, automatically reduced is value of specified maximal stalling current in digging mode, thus prolonging service life of excavator equipment and reducing operating expenses.
