FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, production of carbon and alloyed steels. SUBSTANCE: method includes charging onto furnace bottom of metal scrap in the amount of 70% of total weight of charge, and metal scrap is melted. Then the second portion of metal scrap is added and powdery exothermal mixture in fraction of 0.01-3.00 mm in the amount of 5-100% of weight of the second portion of metal scrap is blown simultaneously into liquid bath in jet of nitrogen. Powdery exothermal mixture contains 20-70% of iron in the form of powdery iron ore, scale or dust of smoke flues of metallurgical furnaces, and reducing agent, the balance. Powdery exothermal mixture provides for acceleration of melting of the second portion of metal scrap. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 2 cl
