FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in production of steel in electric steel melting shops and foundries. Temperature reaches metal boiling point with stable burning arc in zone of its contact with bath surface which leads to melting loss. Cooler in the amount of (0,01-0.05) t/h per 1.0 MW of introduced power is injected in agreement with process of steel melting in electric arc furnace after formation of liquid bath on furnace hearth and in the course of entire melting on bath surface in burning zone. Crushed chips, metallized pellets, mixture of iron-carrying material with coal or slag-forming materials are used in the capacity of cooler. EFFECT: reduced melting losses of metal in energy consumption per ton of melted steel, improved ecological situation in melting shop. 5 cl
