FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, more specifically, production of carbon steel from metal scrap in electric- arc furnaces. SUBSTANCE: the offered method includes charging of metal scrap into bottom of furnace, its melting and recarburizing of melt. Blown into melt in gas jet is powdery mixture of lime and carbon-containing material with their ratio of 1:! and with mixture consumption equalling 0.4-3.0% of melt weight. Rate of recarburizing is maintained within 0.2-0.6% of carbon per minute. Powdery mixture is blown into melt to obtain the required content of carbon in melt prior to beginning of oxidation period. Gas is used in form of nitrogen or argon. Carbon-containing material is used in form of powdery coke, coal or graphite. Powdery mixture is blown in fraction sizing 0.01-6.00 mm. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 4 cl
