SUBSTANCE: number of periods of variations in first and second trains is chosen in measurement range which is not a multiple of each other and has no common multiples greater than unity, reference values of shift are determined for each period of train with shorter period, current value of shift of one train relative to other is determined each time in measuring and compared with reference values of shift; period number corresponding to closest least reference shift relative to current shift is determined; more significant part of output code is shaped in the form of reference shift period number obtained and less significant bit is shaped in the form of current value code of train with shorter period.
