FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: material is intended for lining of converters and electric furnaces for steel melting and for other high-temperature installations. In includes, per cent by mass: alumomagnesium spinel-containing material crystallized at eatectic temperature with oxygen fraction nonstoichiometry <3.0 mm, 42-75; periclase-containing component, 15-40; carbon-carrying material, 10-18; organic binder, 4-8. Refractory material contains periclase-carrying component of fraction 1-0 and <0.063 mm with ratio (0:100)-(50:50). Ultimate strength under compression after thermal treatment in oxidizing atmosphere at 1400 C is 14-21.5 N/sq. mm, depth of layer free from carbon at 1400 C is 5.0-10.0 mm. EFFECT: increased ultimate strength. 2 tbl
