FIELD: solid fuel processing. SUBSTANCE: when processing solid fuels containing volatile metals, such as germanium, in liquid slag bath, solid fuel, e. g. coal, is loaded into slag melt and processed by way of varying oxygen uptake coefficient. The latter is accomplished by alternating oxidative and reductive treatment of melt. EFFECT: increased recovery of germanium from reject ashy slag and thereby total recovery of germanium in solid fuel processing. 1 tbl
