FIELD: aluminum production. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to producing aluminum in molten fluoride electrolyte. Preliminarily sintered carbon-based anode is treated on its sides and upper part by immersing it into boron-containing solution also containing 5 to 60 wt.-% boric acid or boric anhydride in methanol, ethylene glycol, glycerin, or water with a surfactant, optionally at 30 to 120 C. After immersion for 2 to 60 min, boron-containing solution is impregnated to a depth of 1 to 10, usually 2-4 cm relative to upper part and side surfaces of anode. It gives concentration of boron on impregnated surface from 200 ppm to 0.35%. The same treatment may be applied for side walls of electrolytic cell. EFFECT: increased resistance against erosion from oxidative gases releasing in electrolysis process. 24 cl
