FIELD: methods of treatment of surface layers of hard materials; applicable in construction and mining industry. SUBSTANCE: the offered method consists in intensive short-period heating of treated surface with subsequent intensive cooling of layers. In this event, heating is carried out with intensity corresponding to heat flux within 0.1-0.5 MW/sq.m for 0.5-10 min, subsequent cooling of heated layers with heat flux of 300 to 600 W/sq.m for 0.2-2.0 min. Temperature of surface after heating reaches 350-600 C. The plant for embodiment of method has additionally installed on common panel a cooling unit between heating unit and device for destruction and separation of treated layers. In this case, all units are provided with individual mechanism of relative motion in direction perpendicular to treated surface along and across the surface. EFFECT: higher efficiency of surface treatment of materials of concrete type and rocks susceptible to disintegration of thermomechanical nature at respective temperature gradients in surface layers. 5 cl, 4 dwg
