SUBSTANCE: claimed method comprises preparing alphabromoisovalerianic acid by direct bromination of isovalerianic acid with bromine in the presence of small amounts of chloride-containing agents such as phosphorus trichloride, phosphorus oxychloride, thionyl chloride, isovalerianic acid chloride and subsequently esterifying the resulting acid with ethanol. Yield of the desired product is 92.4%. EFFECT: more efficient preparation method. 1 tbl
