FIELD: rare metals production; osmium recovery from effluents resulting at various stages of noble metals refining. SUBSTANCE: osmium contained in process liquors is sorbed with silica gel modified with complexing or anion-exchange functional groups so as to form osmium-containing compounds on surface of liquors. It takes only 10-15 min to recover contained osmium in microquantities regardless of nature of acid in which osmium is dissolved, oxidation degree and form in which osmium is present in liquor. EFFECT: increased osmium recovery rate; simplified sorption procedure. 1 tbl
