FIELD: measurement of friction stress on surface of aircraft, ships, cars and other transport facilities. SUBSTANCE: friction sensor has body which accommodates two rigid parallel plates used as displacement pickup elements. Lower plate is coupled to body, and upper plate is capable of moving. Space between plates, as well as between plates and body is filled with polymeric gel. Flow cause upper plate to move in direction of friction force action. This shift is measured by displacement pickup. According to Hooke's law upper plate shift is proportional to friction stress, therefore pickup has linear characteristic.
