FIELD: fiber optics. SUBSTANCE: invention concerns elements for fiber-optic communication lines, fiberguide-joining devices, spectral filters, optical insulators, and physical quantity transducers. To increase penetration of nitrogen into quartz glass to the level providing required difference in refractory index for the core and shell, gas mixture containing nitrogen, oxygen, and silicon atoms is fed into load-bearing pipe. Molecular gas reagents are mixed such as to ensure no more than five oxygen atoms per each silicon atom and at least one nitrogen atom per 1000 oxygen atoms. In the load-bearing pipe, microwave-frequency discharge is then incited. Reaction mixture products are deposited on the inside surface of load-bearing pipe.
