FIELD: automatic control, adjustment of parameters of industrial technological processes. SUBSTANCE: invention refers in particular to determination of level of drinkable and technological waters in reservoirs of water supply systems. Method of check of distance to object and device for its realization make it possible to increase accuracy and to eliminate redundancy of obtained information on distance to checked object thanks to determination of number of re-radiation of probing pulses by relation of duration of probing information signal and period of count pulses. Device for realization of method has two ultrasonic converters placed along line parallel to surface of checked object, generator of acoustic pulses, amplifier-former, six electron keys, flip- flop, one-shot multivibrator, logic AND gate and two counters.
