FIELD: installations for generating bremsstrahlung pulses and electron beams. SUBSTANCE: method involves feeding accelerating tube with voltage pulse shaped of two voltage pulses of different magnitude and waveform, its length being set depending on rate of plasma propagation in cathode-to- anode gap in accelerating tube found from equation given in description of invention. This operation is effected by means of device that has voltage pulse generator, peaking and switching tubes, accelerating tube; one of generators is connected through peaking tube and other, through switching tube provided gap in switching tube is smaller than in peaking tube and cathode-to-anode gap set in accelerating tube depends on rate of plasma propagation in this gap and length of complex-waveform pulse according to equation given in description of invention.
