FIELD: mechanical engineering; friction articles used as brake and transmission units for power sets of transportation facilities and other machines and mechanisms. SUBSTANCE: method includes cold molding of powder mixture of mixed components of cermet in die of lining preset shape with concurrent formation of relief of grooves due to use of top die with contact surface made according to shape of this relief. Produced lining blanks are placed at least from one side onto steel base coated with copper-containing material to form blank of friction article. Blank is sintered in reducing atmosphere at preset temperature below the melting point of main component of cermet for carrying out the process of diffusion joint of linings with base. During sintering material of projections separating the grooves are compacted under pressure. EFFECT: simplified process of article manufacture; reduced labor input in its manufacture; higher operating reliability of articles with preservation of high friction properties; increased service life of articles. 1 cl, 6 dwg
