METHOD FOR REPAIR OF CONVERTER LINING Russian patent published in 1998 - IPC

FIELD: metallurgy, more specifically, slugging of refractory lining of converter and application of slag to it to enhance its stability. SUBSTANCE: method includes supply to converter in the course of melt oxygen blowing of lime, tapping of melt from converter into casting ladle with leaving the slag in converter. After tapping of melt, converter is placed top its vertical position, lance is lowered into converter, and remaining slag in converter is blown with oxygen at flow rate of 1.5-4.0 cu.m/min.t of melt of previous heat for 5-30 s. Lance during oxygen blowing is installed in compliance with height of converter working hollow at a distance from level of calm bath in previous heat equalling 5-50 calibers of lance nozzles. Then oxygen supply is disconnected, lance is lifted, and supplied to converter is unroasted dolomites in fraction of 5-50 mm in the consumption determined by the following relationship: M = (0.05-0.15)H, where M is dolomite consumption, t/t of melt in previous heat in converter; H is consumption of lime in the course of melting in previous heat, t/t of melt; (0.05-0.15) is dimensionless coefficient considering the physicochemical rules of volume increase of slag left in converter after supply of dolomite into converter and rules of change of its viscosity properties. After introduction of dolomite, converter is periodically inclined 2-6 times to opposite sides through an angle of 60-70 deg with keeping in inclined position for 0.1-5.0 min, and slag lining is applied to existing converter lining. EFFECT: higher productivity of the process and quality of application of slag lining to the converter existing lining and increased stability of converter lining. 1 tbl
