FIELD: ferrous metallurgy; converter steelmaking. SUBSTANCE: method includes blowing melt in converter by oxygen downward through multi-nozzle tuyere, supply of slag-forming materials and coolants to melt, changing position of tuyere in way of blowing the melt above level of killed bath. Oxygen blowing of melt is effected in two stages. Duration of 1st stage of blowing is set according to the following dependence: where dout is duration of 1st stage of blowing, min; dcr is diameter of outlet hole of tuyere nozzle, mm; α - is critical diameter of tuyere nozzle, mm; n is number of tuyere nozzles; D is present magnitude of diameter of lining of converter inner surface, m; Q is magnitude of flow rate of oxygen at 1st stage of blowing, cu.m/t. min; K is empirical coefficient characterizing the physico-chemical mechanism of slag formation and decarbonization of melt at 1st stage of blowing equal to 0.82-4.5.
